On March 27, 1993, Armenian forces began the liberation of Karvachar. On April 1, Karvachar was liberated due to Armenak Abrahamyan, Hovsep Hovsepyan, Volodia Avetisyan, Sargis Karapetyan, Misha Tadevosyan, Joseph Nersesyan, Vigen Abrahamyan and others. On April 2, Armenian forces moved forward, and three days later were stationed at Omar Pass.
The activities of Karvachar started on the night of March 31 at about 00:00. On April 1, after walking 25km, Armenian troops were already at the center of Karvachar. Two positions were taken; the first at 07:00 and the second at 10.30.
The liberation of Karvachar was very important for the security of the north and north-eastern borders of Armenia and Artsakh. Karvachar was an important strategic point for the Armenian side, as a result of which liberation established a stable link between Armenia and Artsakh, significantly reducing the front line, securing the back of the Martakert region.
In 2013, was released the book of Levon Minasyan “KARVACHAR – The Debt of Our Honor” with a detailed presentation of the liberation of Karvachar.
