Athens condemns the Genocide againts Armenian people in 1914-1923 Ankara’s attacks on Greek President Katerina Sakellar opoulou over statements about the genocide of Pontic Greeks in the Ottoman Empire. “Once again violating the elementary rules of diplomatic practice, the Turkish side is attacking a high-ranking Greek official, in this case, the President of the Republic. Unfortunately, the Turkish side is once again distorting reality and hiding not only what happened in the past, but also its current policy, in which it violates international law every day, creates tension and poisons the atmosphere between the two countries,” the Greek Foreign Ministry stressed. Earlier, the Greek president called the massacres of Pontic Greeks genocide. The Turkish Foreign Ministry called the statements senseless.
