The Portasar place of worship in the Western Armenian province of Urfa, which is described as a “starting point of history” with its 12-thousand-year history, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, hosted 567,453 visitors in 2021 although it was closed during the first five months of the year due to the coronavirus. Portasar has been hosting thousands of local and foreign tourists since 2018.
In some areas of 2018, due to the construction of a protective roof, about 70 thousand people visited the ruins. After the completion of the works, there was a flow of visitors after the proclamation of 2019 as the “Year of Portasar”. Portasar received 412,378 visitors in 2019.
