Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan considers Azerbaijan’s proposals on the status of Artsakh unacceptable. “We understand that we have to live next door, but subordination is impossible, it is unacceptable. The option we should be guided by is to maintain the status quo, as the Russians said. The Russian peacekeeping forces will continue to remain here indefinitely, as they have come here as a guarantor of the security of the Armenian population living in Artsakh,” he said at a meeting with officials of the administration of the Martakert region. “To continue living here, having de facto independence, striving for de jure further changes, it may be independence, it may be a connection with Armenia, which I consider unlikely, but it may also be some kind of relationship with Russia within the framework of a direct vertical.”
