Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Greece Tigran Mkrtchyan visited the Greek city of Kalamata. Mayor of Kalamata Athanasios Vasilopoulos delivered a welcoming speech at the event. In his speech, he noted that the Genocide of Armenian people committed 107 years ago continues to be in the spotlight of the international community, emphasizing the importance of commemoration of innocent victims. The head of the Armenian Diocese of Greece, His Eminence Archbishop Gegham Khacheryan, also spoke, stressing that the genocide 107 years ago was followed by the genocides of the Pontic Greeks and Assyrians.

Greek MP Periklis Mandas in his welcoming speech noted that the Greek Parliament will continue to demand recognition of the  Genocide of Armenian people from the international community, so that humanity will no longer fail to commit such crimes. However, Western Armenia knows perfectly well that it is not the recognition that will prevent genocide, but the compensation.
