The great Armenian poet Hovhannes Shiraz was born on April 27, 1914 in Gyumri. All his life, the impressions associated with Tadevos (father) from Gyumri and Astkhik (mother) from Kars remained unforgettable for him. H. Shiraz’s father was killed on the doorstep of his own cottage during the Turkish invasion. The sad childhood of baby Onik begins. 

Hovhannes Shiraz studied at the Faculty of Philology of Yerevan University at the Higher Literary Courses of the Gorky Institute of Literature. The works of Hovhannes Shiraz were published in Armenia with a circulation of more than half a million copies. His works have been translated into 58 languages. The most precious translation of the poet’s precious jewel – the “Biblical” poem. He died in Yerevan in March 1984, and was buried in the Komitas Pantheon.
