The US State Department refers to the concern expressed by the structure in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe resolution “on the humanitarian consequences of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict” in connection with the future of dozens of Armenian churches, monasteries, including the Dadivank monastery complex, khachkars and other cultural heritage monuments in the territories under the control of Azerbaijan. It is noted that the Azerbaijani government has repeatedly refused Armenian pilgrims to enter the monastery on the territory under the control of Azerbaijan. The State Department recalled that the resolution expresses concern about the narrative developing in Azerbaijan at the state level, which seeks to replace the Armenian cultural heritage with the “Caucasian Albanian” heritage. It is emphasized that during the year many reports were received about vandalism against Armenian cultural and religious sites, as well as about deliberate actions of the government against the Armenian heritage.
