1,456  monuments, including 161 monasteries and churches, about 600 khachkars, Armenian treasures remaining in the territories that came under the control of Azerbaijan, are under threat of destruction. The Ombudsman of Artsakh Gegham Stepanyan emphasizes that the goal of the State Council for the Protection of the Cultural Heritage of the occupied territories is to achieve guarantees for the protection of monuments. The first meeting of the council was held under the chairmanship of the Artsakh State Minister Artak Beglaryan, in addition to representatives of state bodies, the council also included experts and lawyers. After the end of the war, there are already many facts about the desecration of Artsakh monuments by Azerbaijanis: the Church of Ghazanchetsots St. Amenaprkich in Shushi, the Kanach Zham, the Church of Mekhakavan,  the monastery of Kataro.
