US Congressman, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Bob Menendez has issued a statement condemning the decision of the Joe Biden administration to abandon section 907 of the Freedom Support Act prohibiting military assistance to Azerbaijan. “While Azerbaijan continues to occupy territories after the attack on the Republic of Artsakh, during which more than 6,500 people were killed and more than 100,000 ethnic Armenians were deported in 2020, it is illogical to say that the support of the United States did not affect the military balance with Armenia,” Menendez said. The Senator expressed readiness to continue to strictly control any assistance provided to Azerbaijan. He expressed hope that the US State Department will act with full transparency and provide Congress with all the necessary details to assess any assistance to Baku. Western Armenia condemns all those projects for which military assistance can be provided to Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is a country which occupied most of the territory of Artsakh in 2020, and the international community should give a clear assessment of this fact.
