The historical walls of Birja Belek in the province of Jizre in the city of Shirnak in Western Armenia are covered with basalt stones. Restoration work of the walls and adjacent territories under the name “environmental improvement” began last year by the Main Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. It should be noted that the fortress and the walls of Jizre are among the most important historical values of the province. The castle on the banks of the Tigris River has been rebuilt several times in the course of its history. Western Armenia draws the attention of the international community to this case, pointing out the conditions under which the monuments of the territories under occupation are protected.
