Dizapayt

One of the highest peaks in Artsakh, Dizapayt, is also located in Hadrut. It was also considered a holy place, which attracted many pilgrims and travelers not only from Artsakh, but also from all over the world. Pilgrims climb the mountain mainly in summer.

According to tradition, at the top of the mountain, at the place of the ancient monastery of Kataro, in the 330s, the children of King Mazakt Sanesan and many Christians converted by St. The grandson of Grigor Lusavorch, the first bishop of the Artsakh world S. Grigoris. The new believers were piled up like wood and burned (hence the name of the mountain). Other legends were woven about the martyrs. The Arabs who invaded Armenia called the mountain Ziarat, which means “sanctuary” in Arabic.
