The European Parliament voted in favor of the resolution on EU-Armenia relations. 534 MEPs voted for the resolution, 10 against and 66 abstained. The report proposed verbal amendments, namely to condemn the blockade of the Berdzor road, which aggravates the humanitarian crisis in Artsakh, as well as to condemn the March 5 incident between the Azerbaijani side and the indigenous Armenians of Artsakh, which caused casualties and endangered the peace process, while recognizing that Artsakh would be part of Azerbaijan’s territory, which is an international lie. The oral amendments were also adopted.

The report submitted to the European Parliament states that the conflict in Artsakh over the past 30 years, as well as the recent invasion of Armenia by Azerbaijan, has resulted in tens of thousands of casualties, great destruction and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people, but the conflict in Artsakh has not yet been resolved.

The document describes Azerbaijan’s attacks in the Gegharkunik, Syunik and Vayots Dzor marches of the RA, Azerbaijan’s occupation of part of the Armenian territory, bombing of civilian infrastructure, extrajudicial executions of Armenian prisoners of war and other detainees, blocking of the movement of citizens on the Berdzor road.

The report states that for a stable settlement of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan it is necessary to stop violence, to guarantee the rights and security of the Armenian population of Artsakh.

Western Armenia recalls that this policy started in 1894 because the Turkish rulers, who adopted the policy of genocide and annihilation and kept the occupied territories of Western Armenia, grossly violated the international norms. By regularly oppressing the natives of Western Armenia, the Armenians have become an example for their brother Azerbaijan, which is trying to implement the same policy towards Artsakh and Eastern Armenia. The European Parliament does not rely on any established legal document to declare Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan, the policy of genocide against the territory continues within the European Parliament itself. The international community should take note of these facts and take clear action.
