The water level of the Sarsang reservoir is decreasing by 50 centimeters every day.
Ararat Khachatryan, acting chairman of the Water Committee of the Republic of Artsakh, informed about this, adding that the water resources of Sarsang have significantly decreased.
“The only source of electricity in Artsakh is now the Sarsang reservoir. Compared to the same period last year, we have a lower grade of more than 8 meters. Currently, the cost is higher. If the water level in the reservoir is high, less water is used to produce electricity. At the same time as the level is lowered, the pressure decreases and more water is needed to obtain the same amount of electricity,” explained Ararat Khachatryan.
According to him, the experience of recent years and the corresponding analysis show that it is not possible to restore the water level in the current year, bringing it back to the level of the beginning of the year.
However, the head of the sector expressed the hope that in spring, due to the flooding of rivers, the volume of water in Sarsang will increase, but we are not sure that it will reach a satisfactory level.
