The Armenian New Year-Easter, according to the Armenian year 13565, takes place on March 21, the day of Areg, in the month of Areg. Today, on the day of Areg in the month of Areg in the Armenian calendar, at the vernal equinox, we celebrate the Armenian New Year-Easter, the eve of spring.
At Easter, the fasting ends and the table is decorated with various national and festive foods.
The spring equinox occurred early in the morning of March 21, at 1:24 am Yerevan time, which is considered the time of the new year itself.
Malt is one of the important ingredients of the new year. We sow it about three weeks before the vacation. Wheat, barley or other seeds symbolize our thoughts, which, by sowing, nurturing and maturing, we turn into goals, which we must achieve in the new year.
An egg is a symbol of new life, and by painting it in different colors, we paint the new life that comes with spring in bright colors. However, the color red is more popular.
The lit candle is the symbol of the sun, which adorns the Suns’ festive table. Honey is also placed on the table, symbolizing family love and sweetness.
Wine is a symbol of the sacred land of the Armenians, of the sun, of the generous hand of the Armenian farmer and of the noble spirit. It is also a symbol of patience and maturity.
The tables are decorated with various national dishes, dried fruits and raisins, legumes, halva, gatha, baklava, and according to preferences, many other dishes.
The day is also embellished by various national games, among which the most popular are egg games, lottery games (for example, when a button, a penny or a bean is placed in a round gata (tarehatsi), and the one who gets the portion during the meal, it is considered that the year is more favorable to him) and many other games accompanied by national song and dance.
The festival starts with the sunrise and the main rituals are performed when the sun is at its highest point.
We congratulate all Haykazuns on the New Year-Easter.
