U.S. Congressman Frank Pallone demanded that the U.S. hold Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev accountable for Baku’s shelling of Armenian positions near the village of Tegh on April 11.
“This is another senseless provocation by Azerbaijani forces against Armenia.
Azerbaijan has repeatedly launched acts of aggression on the territory of Armenia, which destabilize the region and make peace almost impossible. The US should hold Aliyev accountable,” Palone wrote on Twitter.
On April 11, the Armenian Defense Ministry reported that Azerbaijan, among others, fired mortars at Armenian servicemen carrying out engineering work near the village of Tegh in the Syunik region.
Armenia resorted to retaliatory actions. According to the ministry, 4 Armenian soldiers were killed and 6 others wounded. Later, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia announced the names of the victims. Two residents of the village of Tegh also told Armenia Today about the shooting on April 11. They noted that it was launched by the Azerbaijani army.
