The issue of the status of Artsakh would remain unresolved at the international level, and this must be taken into account, said President of Artsakh Arayik Harutyunyan in a conversation with “Armenpress”, noting that although the President of Azerbaijan tried to convince the world for the third year in a row that the issue of Artsakh has been resolved and the concept of “Mountain Karabakh” no longer exists.

The President of Artsakh recalls that on 30 January 1992, Azerbaijan, recognized by only a few states, joined the CSCE on the same day as Armenia. According to Harutyunyan, the sovereignty of these states was recognized by the CSCE on the condition that they in turn recognize the fact of disagreements over the membership of Artsakh and agree that the future status of Artsakh will be decided at the peace conference to be held under the auspices of the CSCE.

“Both states have given such an agreement, thus accepting the international status of Artsakh as a disputed territory and assuming the obligation to resolve the problem peacefully,” said Araik Harutyunyan.

The Republic of Artsakh was established de facto as a result of the victory in the first Artsakh war in 1992-94, Harutyunyan noted.

President Harutyunayan also forgot that before the Soviet occupation of Armenia in 1921, Artsakh was an integral part of an Armenia that obtained all its international recognition.
