The article “Battle of Sassoun” published in the newspaper “Mshak” describes in detail the military operations as well as the massacre. “…This carnage was unprecedented. For a whole day, the army, the Kurds and the Hamidians killed with swords the people they encountered. Men and women, old women and children were massacred in all cruelty… It is impossible to describe in detail these terrible hours. If one climbs to the top of the high mountains of Sassoun today and one’s eyes widen from every pore, one’s hair stands on end. We get chills when we see the mother torn apart, thrown under a pyre, and the two-year-old child also cut in two, placed crosswise on the mother’s back. Here, in another place, as a balancing hook, the two sisters – one hanging from the hook – the other lying on the branches of the oak. Ultimately, there are heartbreaking and sad scenes everywhere…
The information reported in the article “The Sassoon Incidents” published in the November 12 issue of “Mshak” was even more comprehensive. In particular, the numerical data of the fighting forces on both sides almost coincide with the information reported by the newspaper “Le Marteau”, notably, 7,800 infantrymen, 2,000 cavalrymen and more than 150 cannons moved towards Sassoun-Mush, and the number of Kurds who joined they would also be 43,000, who would have received weapons from the authorities of the Sultanate. The total number of Armenians who requested to defend themselves was 1960. Then, the military operations are described by days.
