Armenian historian, researcher specializing in the study of the historical monuments of Armenia, Samvel Karapetyan passed away.
Samvel Karapetyan was born on July 30, 1961. He is from the village of Berdagh in the Archesh province of Western Armenia. In 1978 he graduated school N 48 after Misak Manushyan in Yerevan. Since 1975, he has traveled around the Armenian SSR to study nature, and since 1978 he has been photographing, measuring and describing Armenian monuments throughout the Historical Armenia.
For over three decades he has researched and cataloged thousands of samples of Armenian architecture in Historic Armenia. Karapetyan was known as a critic of the attitude towards Armenian monuments in neighboring countries. He headed numerous groups of Armenian specialists to old Armenian villages to document the historical Armenian monuments and assess their condition. He is the author of numerous scientific publications.
He stated that the authorities of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia deliberately pursued a policy of destruction of Armenian monuments. He presented his facts in 2007 to the US Congress and in 2008 to the European Court of Human Rights.
Samvel Karapetyan was one of the founders of the National Council of Western Armenia.
He was a man who stood for patriotism. His life and ideas were in line with his lifestyle. Unfortunately, his tremendous patriotic work remained incomplete.
Rest in peace, great devotee of the Armenian nation and Armenian culture.
