NASA has shared a satellite image of 12,000-year-old Hasankeyf . It remained under the waters of the Ilisu dam. The photo article highlights the effect that the dam will create.
The article, which highlights the devastating effects of the dam, recalled that the dam covers an area of 190 square kilometers (74 square miles). It is said that if the dam is completely filled, Hasankeyf will almost completely sink under the water and more than 70,000 people will leave their settlement.
The article also mentions that water supplies to Syria and Iraq will decrease.
The combination of two separate satellite images, from February 22, 2019 to March 12, 2020, drew attention to the devastation in Hasankeyf.
The caption of the photo writes: “The water level behind the dam rises by about 15 centimeters a day. It is expected to rise another 50 meters”.
