Archaeological excavations at Amida Hill in Tigranakert have revealed canals and a heating system estimated to be 1,800 years old.
The head of the excavation group prof. Dr. Irfan Yildiz said that Amida hill is considered to be the heart of Tigranakert and Mesopotamia.
Yildiz noted that this year’s work has yielded good results, especially in the excavation on the east side of the diplomatic center.
“In general, the secret tunnel located inside Amida Hill in Tigranakert served as an escape tunnel and as a way to the water source. “Stone canals were found that carried water to the pool and the surrounding areas,” said the professor.
