On September 27, 2020, Azerbaijan, backed by Turkey, initiated a large-scale, unprovoked war against the Republic of Artsakh and the Republic of Armenia. Over the last days Azerbaijani forces have intentionally been attacking civilians and civilian infrastructures, and they have heavily shelled Stepanakert, Shushi, Mardakert, Hadrut, and other peaceful settlements.
The International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) has issued a statement stating that there is a danger of genocide against the Armenians of Artsakh in the actions of Azerbaijan and Turkey.
With that statement, the genocide scholars condemned the war unleashed by Azerbaijan, Turkey and the recognition of the Artsakh Republic as a way to exclude the genocide.
They demanded from the international community to make direct, serious efforts to immediately stop the Azerbaijani aggression, as well as the anti-Armenian state propaganda, hatred in Azerbaijan and Turkey.
