The chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives Eliot Engel and the highest-ranking Republican member of the committee Michael McCall issued a statement condemning the Turkish government, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s actions against NATO and the policies the country has pursued in a number of other areas.
In particular, the statement said: “Turkey’s provocative behavior in bilateral relations for decades poses a threat to NATO and to the region in general. The strength of relations between Turkey and the US is extremely important, which is why we believe that a stronger response to Turkey’s destabilizing actions is needed. “The USA, being a member of NATO, in cooperation with European other allies, must do everything possible to change Turkey’s political orientation.”
The congressmen expressed concern about Turkey’s purchase of Russian weapons . They condemned Turkey’s use of mercenaries in Syria, Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as the search for natural resources in the waters of Greece and Cyprus.
