A commemoration ceremony will be held on January 25 at the Armenian cemetery in the Sisli district of Istanbul on the occasion of the 1st anniversary of the death of the “Iron Fist”, the first professional boxer in Turkey Garpis Zakaryan.
Zakaryan died on January 25 of 2020, at the age of 90.
Zakaryan was born in 1930. He had a career as a boxer of 22 years. The boxer has had 200 amateur and 51 professional fights. Zakaryan became the champion of the Middle East in 1964 after becoming the champion of Istanbul and Turkey.
It is mentioned that a documentary about Garpis Zakaryan’s life and sports career will be shot with the funding of Luys Media operating in Turkey.
