Baku destroyed part of the historic Armenian cemetery in Shushi. The international organization Caucasus Heritage Watch for the protection of Caucasian heritage wrote about this in the X microblog.

It is noteworthy that from October 5 to November 3, bulldozers opened a road through the cemetery called “Gates of Yerevan”. There are at least 78 tombstones bearing Armenian letters dating from 1802 to 1913.

The cemetery is located in dense forest and it is unclear how many headstones were damaged. But studies show they were everywhere.

This is already the 5th Armenian cemetery destroyed since November 2020. Before that, the neighboring cemeteries of Mets Tagher, Sghnakh, Chouchi and Vazgenashen had already suffered destruction.
