”Goddess Anahit” in the Yerevan Museum of History

With the approval of the Trustees of the British Museum, in 2024, the History Museum of Armenia "Mother Goddess:  As part of the exhibition titled "Mariam from Anahit", is planned to provide a temporary display of the bust and hand preserved from the bronze statue of the goddess Anahit (II-I centuries BC).

The History Museum of Armenia has issued a statement clarifying this, referring to the publications circulating about the display of the statue of " Anahit goddess" to Yerevan kept in the British Museum.

The History Museum of Armenia, among other prestigious museums of the world, actively cooperates with the British Museum in London.

Back in 2018, the museum participated in the international exhibition "I am Ashurbanipal, King of the World, King of Assyria" organized in the British Museum, where 10 unique specimens from the museum's collection were presented.

In 2023, the British Museum opened "Glory and Power: "From Persia to Greece".

the international exhibition, in which the History Museum of Armenia also took part, presenting 3 exceptional samples from its collection at the exhibition (the gold breastplate found in Armavir, the clay bull-shaped ritual vessel (VI-V centuries BC), the clay bear-shaped ritual vessel found in Artashat (BC I d.)).

As part of the opening of the exhibition, negotiations were held with the officials of the British Museum.

In particular, the Director of the History Museum of Armenia Davit Poghosyan, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Varuzhan Nersisyan, the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia Zhanna Andreasyan had meetings with the Director of the British Museum Hartwig Fischer and other museum officials.

During the meetings, the perspectives and new possibilities of further cooperation between the two museums were discussed, as well as ensuring the continuity of organizing joint exhibitions.

With the approval of the Board of Trustees of the British Museum, this year the History Museum of Armenia's "Mother Deity: As part of the exhibition titled "Mariam from Anahit", it is planned to provide a temporary display of the bust and hand preserved from the bronze statue of the goddess Anahit.

For the first time, the exhibits of this relic importance will be combined with the remarkable exhibits related to different periods kept in the History Museum of Armenia," the statement of the Museum of History stated.
