The restoration of the Ani Bridge will be symbolic, it will not be used for passenger or freight transportation. This was said by Raffi Kortoshyian, deputy director of the Foundation for the Study of Armenian Architecture, when announcing the restoration of the Ani Bridge.

“Firstly, there are no access roads on both sides, secondly, on the side of Western Armenia, there is the capital of Ani, which is a UNESCO listed monument, which can not be used for other purposes, it is also not recommended, because there are other roads. In other words, if it is restored, it will be symbolic and can also be used as a bridge for tourists who go there,” he said.

Kortoshian mentioned that the Ani bridge was destroyed for hundreds of years, it was used when Ani was the capital of Armenia.

It should be noted that the Ani Bridge was built in the 10th-11th centuries, over the Akhuryan River.

We consider it necessary to note that in this regard, no preliminary agreement has been reached with the leadership of Western Armenia and it is not clear who is going to finance this restoration. There is no clarity regarding the ongoing construction works, as the bridge is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a cultural heritage site one of the most important objects on the list of preservation values, its construction must also be carried out in accordance with the standards, without violating the original Armenian architectural direction.
