An event titled “Nemesis in Culture, or the Return of Dignity” was held at the Tekeyan Cultural Center in Yerevan, bringing together intellectuals, artists, and public figures committed to national memory, justice, and identity.
During the event, director and screenwriter Samvel Tadevosyan’s documentary “Nemesis in Culture” was presented, focusing on the struggle of Armenian avengers and the restoration of national dignity. One of the key elements of the film is a painting by artist Shmavon Shmavonyan depicting the street in Tbilisi where Armenian avengers assassinated one of the organizers of the genocide committed against Armenians, Jemal Pasha, in 1922.
Participants emphasized that Operation Nemesis symbolizes not only revenge but also justice and the inevitability of punishment. The “Nemesis” memorial in Yerevan’s Circular Park was also mentioned, engraved with the famous words of Soghomon Tehlirian: “There are verdicts that should not be entrusted to courts.”
Speeches were delivered by historian Ashot Melkonyan, literary critic Samvel Muradyan, orientalist Abraham Gasparyan, and others, highlighting that preserving national memory and restoring dignity remain among the most important issues for contemporary Armenians.
At the end of the event, the creation of a traveling “Nemesis in Culture” museum was announced, intended to be presented in Armenian communities around the world, conveying the history of Operation Nemesis and the idea of national resistance through the language of culture.
