On the Issue of Armenians of Western Armenia

Disturbances begin in Yerevan, and the angry residents demand that the National Council take immediate  measures and punish the Tatars. The National Council of Yerevan decides not to escalate the situation and to start negotiations with the Tatars. A delegation of Hovhannes Melikyan (doctor, brother of National Council member Hovakim Melikyan), Arakel Afrikyan, Sahak Torosyan, Tatar Khalil Bey and lawyer Aghababe is created with membership. The delegation goes to Ghamarlu and demands the return of the wounded, the corpses of the killed and the cessation of military operations. The Turks require three days to examine the conditions, but after the deadline, they do not respond. Moreover, they kill all the prisoners and wounded.

"Under the influence of Tajik propaganda and encouraged by Shamdinbekov's actions, the Turks of Ulukhanlu region attacked the Armenian villages and soldiers of that region. Then the Turks attacked Ulukhanlu, Araks, Arazdayan stations, burning and looting the warehouses in the stations.

After those atrocities, the National Council decided to send a punitive military unit and curb the atrocities of the Turkish army. That task was handed over to Dro, who in a short period of time cleared the region of Turkish gangs, destroying six villages.

Conflicts in Tiflis

Disagreements are also taking place in Tiflis. A soldier of the Muslim division was  killed in Yerevan square.

The crime still unsolved, the Tiflis State Committee receives a letter signed by the "borchalvets", which states that if the soldier's murder is not immediately revealed, "Borchalu will come upon Tiflis". This information spreads in Maidan and Sheytan Bazar regions of Tiflis, where horsemen of the Wild Division soon appear and start searching.

Soon, Karchikyan and Sultanov rush to the place  and manage to calm the situation. Bloody clashes between the retreating Russian army and the Tatars take place in the Marneul region, at the Sandar station.

On February 13, the Commissariat sent a special message to the peoples of the Caucasus, calling for solidarity and peace.

" The entire national population shall be known that the enemies of the revolution are constantly trying to sow strife and division between the nations of Transcaucasia and light such a fire that will prepare a grave for the revolutionary to all expectations of democracy. We are facing a terrible danger, people of Transcaucasia, be far-sighted and do not succumb to provocation."

The Tatar population of the Transcaucasus tried to expel  Armenians not only from the regions that tars  considered their own, but also from the Armenian provinces. the borders of the territories of the two nations  were clarified by force of arms and struggle, which continued throughout the entire period of the existence of the Republic of Armenia.

Although in 1905-1907 iArmenian-Tatar conflicts were bitter experience for Armenian people   this was an unexpected and worrying reality for Armenians. A second front was being created, thefight  against which was weakening the possibility of resisting the external Turkish attack.
