The Armenian-French archaeological expedition carried out excavations in the Erebuni fortress in May-June and recorded fantastic results. In a conversation with Aravot.am, a member of the group, Mikayel Badalyan, said that the excavations were carried out both in the castle and outside the castle.
Moreover, the excavations continued outside the castle in the site of the previous year, where floors from the Achaemenid period were found.
He specifically referred to the excavations carried out in the pottery hall, because cuneiform inscriptions containing units of volume were found between two jars. “It was interesting one of the volume units where word “arus” was written on a splinter of the pot and an “arus” was a rare unit, and in the form of “arus”, we only had 3 fragments of pots, which were once found from Haykaberd, in Western Armenia,” he noted.
According to him, this is the first inscription containing a unit of “arus” volume found in the territory of Eastern Armenia. The archeologist reported that the last time a cuneiform was found was as a result of archaeological excavations in Eastern Armenia in 2011, again from Erebun. According to Mikael Badalyan, one of the cuneiforms is rare, and he, as a specialist in Urartu archeology, recorded a very important fact.
Urartian bone arrowheads were found between two jars.
According to him, perhaps we are dealing with a ritual, because they probably stored grain or wine in the jars, and the bone arrows were hardly used for war, because metal arrows were mainly used for war.
