South of the ancient Armenian city of Ani, in the territory of present-day Kars Province, the ruins of the 13th-century Kusanats Monastery have been preserved.

The monastery is an important monument of Armenian medieval spiritual and cultural heritage. Today, its surviving remains testify to the widespread presence of Armenian monastic complexes around Ani and to Armenian cultural life during the medieval period.
