New satellite images show that new structures are being built around the 19th-century Holy Savior Ghazanchetsots Cathedral in occupied Shushi, altering the historic setting of the monument.

The church, built in 1887, sustained damage following the 2020 war, while several Armenian architectural elements were altered during restoration work carried out by Azerbaijan.

According to Caucasus Heritage Watch, the new construction continues to alter the historic area surrounding Ghazanchetsots Cathedral, threatening the monument’s integrity and authenticity. Similar developments have also been documented at other Armenian churches and cultural heritage sites in occupied Artsakh.
