Following Daniel Varuzhan’s arrest on August 25, 1915, a heavy silence filled his classroom. The following day, the Turkish-language teacher, Tovmas Efendi, entered Varuzhan’s classroom. Although he did not usually speak Armenian, this time he addressed the students in fluent Armenian and announced that the Armenian literature lesson would continue.

The students were supposed to study the works of Frik, and Tovmas Efendi taught them a lesson in Armenian literature. However, the following day, he too was arrested.

August 25, 1915, was the final day of 31-year-old Daniel Varuzhan’s earthly life.
