The international recognition of the genocide committed against Armenians is the result of decades of nationwide struggle. The process began long before the independence of the Republic of Armenia, through the efforts of Genocide survivors, Armenian communities, researchers, and human rights advocates.

The significance of international recognition is not limited to political interests. It affirms historical truth, preserves the memory of the victims, limits denial, and contributes to the prevention of similar crimes.

The international recognition of the genocide committed against Armenians is also enshrined in Point 11 of the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Armenia, according to which Armenia supports the cause of the international recognition of the genocide committed against Armenians.

Preserving historical memory does not contradict peace or the normalization of relations. Genuine reconciliation is possible when historical facts are not denied and the memory of the victims is not turned into a subject of political arrangements.
