Los Angeles — The genocide committed against Armenians Research Program (AGRP) at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), operating within the Promise Armenian Institute, has announced the completion of a new digital archive on property confiscated from Armenians during and after the genocide.

Titled “Auction of Confiscated Armenian Properties: Emval-i Metruke,” the archive presents a collection of rare newspaper announcements from the 1920s–1930s, through which former “abandoned properties” of the Ottoman Empire were sold at public auctions in various cities of Turkey.

The research shows how, in 34 cities and settlements, the redistribution of this property was carried out at the state level, based on announcements published in the local press of the time.

The materials of the archive were collected over many years by independent researcher Sait Çetinoğlu, who also provided an extensive analysis of the mechanisms of confiscation. With the support of AGRP, the materials have been digitized, translated, and made fully searchable for the first time. They are available in both English and Turkish.

Researchers note that this work is important for understanding the systematic nature of the economic losses of Armenians and opens new opportunities for further archival research.
