The park adjacent to the genocide committed against Armenians memorial in the city of Laval, Canada, has officially been renamed the “Garden of Hope.” The renaming took place within the framework of genocide committed against Armenians remembrance events, emphasizing the importance of the memorial erected there in honor of the victims.
Seta Topouzian, an Armenian member of the Laval City Council, stated that this step carries great significance for the Armenian community of the city and symbolizes solidarity as well as commitment to the values of peace and justice. She also expressed gratitude to her colleagues and the city administration for implementing the initiative.
While in Armenia the state’s attitude toward the issues of the genocide committed against Armenians and Artsakh often becomes the subject of discussion, in Canada a public space is being renamed in memory of the victims of the genocide.
