In the context of the rights of the indigenous Armenian people of Western Armenia. It is relevant to start negotiations for a stable peace in the region, based on international law, according to which the Armenian state was recognized in 1920, and the successor of which is Western Armenia.
Mrs. Lydia Margossian, the President of the Republic of Western Armenia said this in Geneva.
According to her, despite this circumstance, for 104 years, the indigenous Armenian people of Western Armenia continue to be subjected to the illegal occupation of the territories of Western Armenia by the Turkish armed forces, and by the azerbaijani armed forces from 1921, which has led to the continuation of the genocide with plans, which are against international law.
“Regardless of everything, our national reconstruction mechanisms in Western Armenia are functioning according to the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, as a result of which our indigenous state and its structures were formed by the government and the parliament,” said she.
Mrs. Lydia Margossian noted that within the framework of the mandate given to her, she asked the Human Rights Council to include in the discussions the issue of the occupation of Armenian territories in violation of international law and, therefore, the observance of agreements in UN forums.
To this request made last year, the President added a full legal package, including President Woodrow Wilson’s decision clearly delineating the international border between Turkey and Western Armenia and acting in favor of peace negotiations under Article 92 of the Treaty of Sèvres.
She continues: this request is nothing more than the need for full implementation of the Treaty of Sèvres, as the articles of that treaty have been applied to all participating countries except Armenia. “On this occasion, I remind you that Palestine, which is also an observer state in the UN, justifies its rights on the basis of the Treaty of Sèvres. I also remind that many states Syria including Iraq or Saudi Arabia (Hijaz), which are also UN member states, justify their rights on the basis of the Treaty of Sèvres ,” added she.
According to her, the application of the Treaty of Sèvres should be restored to us, because that international peace treaty is a further action to compensate for the genocide committed against Armenians. The dignity of our humanity depends on the application of international law, without which there can be no lasting peace in this region.
