  • by Western Armenia, June 27, 2024 in National Council

The Treaty of Sèvres was applied to many nations:

for Syrians, Iraqis, Palestinians, Jews, and to a some  extent to Turks and Kurds.

However, it was not applied to Armenians." Armenag Aprahamian,  the President  of the National Council of the Republic of Western Armenia, said this during the meeting-discussion of the 8th anniversary of the ratification of the Treaty of Sevres.

However, according to President the liberation of Shushi in 1992 made it possible to regain the Republic of Armenia of 1920.

The President of the National Council   states that Turkey had time  to respond   to the Supreme Council till May 11, 1920.

Turkey submits   their  answer on June 23, 1920, and  recognized Armenia according to the Treaty of Batumi  but did not  recognize Western Armenia as the territory of the republic.

The Supreme Council gives Turkey  time  to sign the Treaty of Sèvres.

In July 1920, the Ottoman Sultan,  convened a council of his sovereignty, which was attended by 50 people.

Based on the Ottoman national constitution, the Sultan decided to send his ambassadors to sign the Treaty of Sèvres”,

mentioned    President, Armenag Aprahamian.

He also emphasized,it is important to realize  that according to the Ottoman constitution, the sultan is inviolable he issues orders but does not sign documents. The Sultan's order is equal  to ratification.

Thus, Turkey ratified the Treaty of Sèvres.

"After the liberation of Shushi, in 2016 we ratified it in the liberated territory, showing that we followed the entire legal procedure before the liberation of the territories of  Armenia.

This emphasizes the importance of the liberated territory and the fact that  Armenian people liberated a part of their  republic of 1920 for the first time in decades," concluding his speech  Armenag Aprahamian, President of the National Council of the Republic of Western Armenia.
