In a speech on his five years of diplomatic activity in Argentina, Guillermo Karamanian, Ambassador of the Republic of Western Armenia, presented the main areas of his work and the Republic’s legal positions.
According to the speech, the purpose of the diplomatic activities carried out in Argentina since 2021 has been to present the position of the Republic of Western Armenia on international platforms, based on international legal documents dating from 1920. The Ambassador noted that, during this period, meetings were held with representatives of Argentina’s political, religious, public, and legal circles, while several media outlets in the country covered his activities.
One of the central themes of the speech was the issue of the legal heritage of the Armenian state internationally recognized in 1920. The Ambassador argued that this legal status has not ceased to exist and that the Republic of Western Armenia presents itself as the continuation of that statehood.
He also addressed the declaration of independence of the Republic of Armenia in 1991, emphasizing that, in his assessment, it did not restore the full territorial rights of the Armenia of 1920. Particular emphasis was placed on the historical territories of Western Armenia, as well as the issues of Artsakh, Nakhichevan, Javakhk, Kars, Ardahan, and Surmalu.
The Ambassador called on Armenians not to limit themselves to commemorating the historical past, but to present their legal claims more actively before international institutions, defending their positions concerning indigenous status, historical heritage, and international law.
