On May 20, 2026, the 17th session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Western Armenia took place in an online format. Seventeen out of the 53 elected deputies participated in the session.

The session was opened and chaired by National Assembly deputy Marieta Dumikyan. Following the approval of the agenda and the reading of the minutes from the previous session, issues of national and political importance were discussed.

Mrs. Dumikyan presented the significance of the upcoming online meeting scheduled for May 24, dedicated to the 13th anniversary of the establishment of the National Assembly of Western Armenia. In her speech, she emphasized that the formation of the National Assembly was an important step toward the development of state institutions and national self-organization.

During the session, special attention was also given to the topic of the genocide of the Pontic Greeks. Participants stressed that May 19 is a day of remembrance and mourning that unites the tragic destinies of the Pontic Greeks and the Armenians of Western Armenia. It was noted that both peoples were subjected to genocidal policies in the early 20th century, including massacres, forced deportations, and dispossession from their homeland.

During the discussion, it was emphasized that churches, schools, and cultural values were destroyed with the aim of erasing the historical presence of these peoples from their native lands. The speakers highlighted the importance of preserving historical memory and continuing the pursuit of justice.
