The actions of the Baku authorities - to capture Armenian servicemen from the territory of Armenia, then to bring false charges and subject them to an unfair trial - are flagrant violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law, says the RA human rights defender.

"These actions contradict the UN Charter, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the requirements of international humanitarian law, including the Third Geneva Convention," said Anahit Manasyan.

The human rights defender drew attention to the fact that military personnel had been captured on Armenian territory during the ongoing armed conflict. Manasyan added that the fundamental rights of Armenian prisoners of war are threatened under the conditions of Armenian hatred propagated by the Azerbaijani side. The Defender stresses that Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan are under constant threat of torture, degrading and inhuman treatment, as evidenced by the information recorded by the Defender's staff.
