An unprecedented rise in the water level of the Euphrates has been recorded due to large-scale water releases from Turkish-occupied Western Armenia and heavy rainfall. Syrian authorities have declared a state of emergency preparedness in the provinces of Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, and Aleppo.
As a result of the flooding, bridges, agricultural lands, and residential houses have been damaged. Water levels in the country’s reservoirs have approached dangerous limits, which is why water releases through the Euphrates dam are continuing.
The Syrian side links the situation to the increased water flow coming from Turkish-occupied Western Armenia, while Turkish sources state that controlled water releases were carried out at the Atatürk Dam due to rising reservoir levels.
