Last week, it became known that Baku had made another accusation against the Armenian side, claiming that frescoes, khachkars, and other cultural objects had been transferred from Dadivank to Armenia.

Sabina Hajiyeva, head of Azerbaijan’s State Service for the Protection, Development and Restoration of Cultural Heritage, stated that information concerning the frescoes and khachkars allegedly removed from Dadivank had been submitted to INTERPOL as early as October 2025 and included in its “Stolen Works of Art” database.

According to Raffi Kortoshyan, Deputy Director of the Research on Armenian Architecture Foundation, it is first necessary to determine whether the Azerbaijani side actually submitted information to INTERPOL and whether it was included, as Azerbaijan claims, in the “Stolen Works of Art” database.

“The Azerbaijani side has lied many times, so I do not know how credible this statement is. We know very well that Azerbaijan constantly makes false statements; I do not believe the statements of any official.

“Moreover, under Article 2 of its Constitution, INTERPOL is prohibited from becoming involved in such historical or propaganda-related, cultural, or racial conflicts. I believe that even if Azerbaijan appealed to INTERPOL, it wanted the organization to become involved in Azerbaijan’s geopolitical pressure against Armenia,” Raffi Kortoshyan told 168.am.

Kortoshyan recalled numerous cases in which, according to him, Azerbaijan destroyed Armenian churches and khachkars in Artsakh, noting that numerous videos documenting such cases have circulated. Therefore, he argued that if the Armenian side removed any khachkar from Artsakh, that khachkar was saved from Azerbaijani vandalism.

“If even one khachkar was transferred to Armenia, this is consistent with international law, because Azerbaijan has vandalized and continues to vandalize khachkars and churches in Artsakh, desecrates sacred images, and even shoots at khachkars. There is various evidence documenting all of this. I am not even speaking about the fact that wherever Azerbaijan can reach, it destroys churches and khachkars, all of them Armenian. The monuments of Nakhichevan and the khachkars of Old Julfa are examples.

“Therefore, even if one khachkar was removed from Artsakh, it means that the khachkar was saved from Azerbaijani vandalism,” Raffi Kortoshyan emphasized.

The article states that since 2020, Azerbaijan has destroyed dozens of churches in Artsakh, demolishing them completely, as well as cemeteries and monuments commemorating Armenian heroes. It also states that various villages, including Karin Tak, where sacred sites are also located, have been demolished.
