The Investigative Committee has classified information concerning the remains of deceased persons kept in morgues in Eastern Armenia following the wars of 2020 and 2023 as confidential information related to the preliminary investigation.

In response to a written inquiry from 168.am, the Investigative Committee declined to disclose how many remains are currently being kept in morgues, where they are being stored, how many have been identified through DNA testing, and whether all the remains have undergone a second identification procedure.

The issue had previously been raised by Anahit Adoyan, the mother of missing serviceman Vardan Adoyan. She expressed doubts regarding the DNA identification process and demanded an opportunity to examine the remains being kept and the results of the examinations.

In its response, the Investigative Committee stated that the information requested contains preliminary investigation data that is not subject to publication and, under the Law on Freedom of Information, cannot be provided.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health of Eastern Armenia stated that the remains are being kept at the Metsamor morgue under appropriate conditions and that international examinations have also been conducted on them.
