The representatives of the United States Congress  Anna Eshoo and Chris Smith introduced a bipartisan resolution  that  condemns Baku for the ethnic cleansing of the Armenian population of Artsakh and calls on President Joe Biden's administration to take immediate action to hold Baku accountable for the  genocidal aggression.

The author, Chris Smith, noted that the terrible atrocities and ethnic cleansing carried out by Baku against Armenians living in Artsakh do not erase the rights of Armenians  to live peacefully and freely in their ancient homeland, profess their own faith, follow their own customs and speak their  native  language.

The resolution would be recognized as an act of ethnic cleansing and forced displacement of more than 100,000 Armenians in Artsakh.

In addition, the resolution calls on the United States to contribute to the establishment of a   lasting peace in the South Caucasus which will ensure the release of all illegally detained Armenian prisoners of war and civilian prisoners, including the former political leaders of Artsakh and will  guarantee and secure   the  right   of Armenians to return  their homes under security guarantees.
