UNESCO refused Baku's request to visit Akna to assess the condition of the Stepanaket monuments. Nigar Arpadarai, deputy of the Baku Parliament and member of the Baku delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, wrote about this on his microblog Azerbaijan to visit Artsakh. “Baku agreed to provide a road through Akna to Stepanakert, but UNESCO refused, wanting to go only to Stepanakert to assess the condition of the monuments,” he wrote.

Recall that on November 10, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Eastern Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan met with UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay in Paris. He expressed concern about the serious risks of destruction, desecration or appropriation of Armenian cultural and spiritual heritage in Artsakh, stressing the need for active participation of UNESCO in the protection of cultural monuments.
