During a discussion titled “Being an Armenian Youth,” organized by the Human Rights Association of Constantinople, young Armenians spoke about the difficulties of living with national identity in Turkey, everyday discrimination, and the importance of preserving identity.

Speakers Nare Dink, Vardan Estukyan, and Shant Demirchiyan presented their personal experiences, explaining how Armenian identity often forces individuals to choose the path of “invisibility.”

They noted that in daily life they frequently encounter prejudice and changes in attitude when they reveal their Armenian origin.

The discussion also addressed the phenomenon of using second names among Armenians living in Western Armenia, often linked to security concerns and the desire to avoid social pressure. The story of Sevak Balıkçıyan, killed during military service, was also mentioned.

At the same time, the youth emphasized that Armenian identity is not only a struggle but also cultural richness—music, language, and historical memory.

They highlighted the importance of connection with Armenia, which, according to the speakers, helps to better understand one’s roots and culture.

The discussion concluded with the conviction that the younger generation is ready to break years of silence and speak openly about their identity and history.
