"I am a person who understands the pain of his nation  and bears this burden," he described himself in this way in one of his interviews.

Hrant Dink was assassinated on January 19, 2007, in front of the "Agos" editorial office in Sisli, by 3 shots fired from behind. This crime could have been considered as an accident or a mistake if Dink had not been in the spotlight of the international community. And he became famous for the simple reason that he tried to oppose the laws and public opinion of the Turkish government, Dink spoke about the pain of Western Armenia.

Hrant Dink, despite the death threats, in his brave publications, articles and speeches, constantly raised the issue of the genocide against Armenians, spoke about the need for freedom of speech in Turkey, raised many silenced and taboo questions. . Due to  his activities, people started talking about the Genocide in Turkey, he reminded about the existence of the ..turkish.. Armenian community and the need to protect its rights.

After his assassination, thousands of demonstrations took place in Constantinople.

After the murder, Hrant Dink became a symbol of freedom for everyone  standing up for their rights. Dink's murder made the thousands of people gather  near the building of the editorial office of the periodical founded by him to shout in unison: "We are all Armenians, we are all Hrant."

The police arrested 17-year-old Ogun Samast at the bus station of the Turkish city of Samsun on the suspicion of committing the murder, who confessed his guilt during the first interrogation. Despite the fact that Samast confessed his guilt, all the details of Dink's murder have not yet been revealed.
