Elina Avanesyan, ranked 51st in the world, started the WTA-500 series tournament in Monterrey with a victory. The representative of Armenia competed with Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto,  64th ranked player in the world, and won 7:6 (8:6), 6:1. The match lasted 1 hour and 46 minutes.

Elina Avanesyan’s opponent in the second round will be the world’s 28th ranked player, Ukrainian Elina Svitolina.

The prize fund of the Monterey tournament is 922 thousand dollars.
