Fabian Salvioli, the UN special rapporteur on the promotion of truth, justice, reparations and guarantees of non-repetition, expresses his solidarity with those forcibly displaced from Artsakh, highly appreciating the willingness and commitment of the government of Eastern Armenia to help them. During a press conference organized at the UN Armenia office, he informed that his visit to Armenia coincided with the forced deportation of over 100,000 Armenians from Artsakh as a result of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict. Salvioli met the forcibly displaced and got acquainted with the process of their reception in different communities. In direct conversations, he felt their pain and talked about urgent problems. He witnessed the large-scale works carried out by the government, which are aimed at solving the basic needs of forcibly displaced people.
Salvioli called on the parties to the conflict to continue the peace negotiation process and urged the representatives of the international community related to it to consider the issue of creating mechanisms to preserve the tangible and intangible heritage of the Artsakh Armenians, which will also enable the restoration of justice, ensure the return of conflict victims, prisoners of war and displaced persons to their places of residence, as well as also determine appropriate compensation.
