Among those commemorated as heroes of the Battle of the Somme in northern France is British-Armenian soldier Aganur John Aganur (1891–1916), who was killed during one of the bloodiest battles of the First World War.

Aganur was born on August 29, 1891, in Feltham, London. His father, Petrus Basil Aganur, was an Armenian, a British citizen, and Secretary of the Anglo-Armenian Association. Aganur grew up in London with his two sisters and served in the British Army during the war, where he was killed in the Battle of the Somme in 1916.
